After piano, drum, orchestral percussion, choral, pipe organ studies & the usual academic musical education in harmony, counterpoint & composition etc, Gavin decided playing a drumkit around the world in Rock/Pop bands and hanging out in studios making albums sounded much more fun.
After a career with, amongst others; Primal Scream, Julian Cope, Marianne Faithful, Nick Heyward, Kenny Thomas, Tiger, Slingbacks, Newton Faulkner and a happy 7 years in France working with Etienne Daho (as well as countless sessions for bands and artists now forgotten), he decided to devote his musical mind to composition and the drumkit has been in the loft ever since.
Since 2002 he has scored much music for film, television, advertising & multimedia, including the Emmy nominated Discovery Film "The Flight That Fought Back"; The BAFTA nominated CH4 film “Brinks Mat – The Greatest Heist”; a series for Five - “Inferno 999”; “In The Womb” series for CH4 & National Geographic”; a BBC1 Timewatch documentary & several documentaries for SKY. He is currently scoring much music for well-loved culinary BBC programmes.
As well as music to picture, Gavin is a prodigious composer of Production Library music, his style being eclectic in every sense: Orchestral, Electro, Ambient, Post-Rock, Indie, Acoustic, Ethnic, Dub, Jazz…..and isn’t afraid to mash them all up if he can! You can find out more at gavinskinner.com.
